Awkward

This is the first successful downtown scene I've done, I think!

Proud of myself. I referenced some Archie Comics for how they handle downtown scenes, though the area my characters live in is quite different from the Archie cast. If you haven't realized by now, I do draw some inspiration from Archie comics (the original ones, not the junky "manga-ized" ones). For instance, I have many characters, also. I learned how to draw people when I was very young by tracing Betty and Veronica (and redoing their outfits. heh. Guess I knew I was a fashion designer even then). I also do the shorter story runs. What differs? My stories aren't as, er, clean. Each page, though often part of a longer story arc, can stand alone. And the comics all have something to do with each other.

The characters are more developed - that is something I take from manga. Also sitcoms! I take writing/story techniques from manga, such as that Pandora is character-driven. I will set the scene with establishing shots. I will have wordless panels. etc, etc. I'm not particularly inspired, for my own work, by drawing in most manga. I love it, but I don't want to recreate it. I'm not recreating the wheel here.
